The most prestigious global festival for the advertising and communication fields began its seven day celebration last Sunday, June 20. Thousands of delegates all over the world are now rooting for the bests at the 57th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in the Palais Festival, Cannes, south of France.

The awards are categorized into twelve. Five grand prix’s have already been awarded, three categories are to be concluded today, and three more before the festival ends at the 26th.

The winners are as follows:

Category: Promotion and Activation
Jury Chair:   Tina Manikas

Grand Prix:   Gatorade – Replay (USA)

Gatorade organized a replay match between two high school football teams that played a 7-7 tie in a 1993 Thanksgiving Day game. The Turkey Day game between the teams has been the longest football rivalries in the USA.

Gatorade offered to train the men of the 1993 game – as the campaign promotes adults to continue play sports, exercise, and stay fit. It recruited original players, coaches, and cheerleaders. Gatorade produced a 5-part online documentary of the men’s training.

PR Jury President Paul Taaffe comments that the campaign was “real and true and not something contrived and gimmicky.” Promo Jury President Tina Manikas and her panel said they raved about the “uniqueness of the campaign.”

This entry also bagged the Public Relations Grand Prix Lion.
